The Rajah of Athagarh, Balunkeswar Harichandan Jagadeb, belonging to the Baghel dynasty was the patron of Kabisurya Baladev Rath. Kishorchandranana Champu and many other works have been dedicated by Baladev Rath to the Raja of Athagarh. In Athagarh, which is near Kabisuryanagar there is the famous temple of Kanaka Durga Thakurani. As per legend Kabisurya Baladev Rath owes his literatary talents to the blessings of the goddess Kanakadurga. The Kanakadurga temple is managed by Madhusudan Harichandan Jagadeb, the last surviving zamindar of Athagarh and Tekkali.
